Cosina Camera Lenses for Canon

Cosina designs a number of optical lenses for Canon cameras with EF, FD, EOS (ZE), and M42 mounts. Whether you have a camera with manual focus or automatic focus, there is a variety of choices with different lens speeds, aperture stops, and focal lengths, allowing you to take photos in many different situations. Considering the type of photographs you like to take allows you to choose the lens that meets your needs.

What are the different types of lenses for Canon cameras?

Considering the type of photos you are likely to shoot allows you to choose the right lens, and this is especially important if you work using manual focus.

  • Standards have a focal length of about 50 millimeters to capture what most human eyes see naturally.
  • Macros are used to take very close-up images. They are typically used for taking photos of insects, plants, and other objects in nature.
  • Telephotos are used when you cannot get close to the object that you want to shoot. They are generally used at sporting events, to take photos of wildlife, and to shoot portraits.
  • Wide-angles allow the photographer to capture more of an area in a single image.
What is the difference between a fixed and zoom lens?

The advantage of a fixed length is that it usually performs better in low-light conditions. These are usually lighter than ones that zoom; however, zoom optical glasses offer more flexibility.

How does a lens attach to a camera?

You need to first identify your camera's mount by reading the owner’s manual so you know which is the correct lens.

Attaching a Cosina Optical Glass with an EF Mount:
  • Remove the cap on the camera's front.
  • Remove the cover from the back of the optical glass.
  • Align the mounting index on the lens with the one on the camera.
  • Turn the optical glass clockwise until it snaps into place.
Attaching a lens with an FD Mount:
  • Remove the cap on the body's front.
  • Take the cap off the back of the optical glass.
  • Line up the dots on both units.
  • Turn the bayonet ring to the right until it is tight.
Attaching a Lens with an EOS Mount:
  • Take the cap off the front of the camera.
  • Remove the cover from the rear of the optical glass.
  • Line up the mounting indexes.
  • Turn the lens counterclockwise until it clicks.

What do the different focal lengths do?

The focal length you need depends on what type of image you would like to capture. Focal lengths between 35 and 85 millimeters are for general purposes. Those with focal lengths under 35 millimeters are for capturing panoramic shots. Ones between 85 and 135 millimeters are suited for portraits. Focal lengths above 135 millimeters are for when you cannot get close to the image.
