- Read the information supplied by the seller carefully to make sure that you know exactly what you are buying. Make sure to check the condition of the keyboard, the FRU number, the correct layout and any other features you want.
Can I replace the keyboard myself?
Replacement of an IBM Lenovo keyboard is a fairly easy task that can be completed in no more than 15 minutes, and it may be possible for you to do the replacement yourself at home. But if you have any doubt, it is recommended that you have the replacement done by a skilled professional. Should you decide to go ahead by yourself, take careful note of the following:
- Make sure that you have all the required tools available. For removal from your laptop, you would need a Phillips number 0 screwdriver, an 1/8-inch wide flat head screwdriver and a pick tool.
- Do not pierce or damage any rubber plugs or grommets. They help prevent liquid spillage from damaging your laptop.
- Be careful not to damage the ribbon cable.
- On most IBM Lenovo laptops, the screws securing the keyboard to the laptop are marked with either two triangle or a keyboard print next to the screws.
